  Prominent Ears (Otoplasty)

Protruding ears cause a lot of psychological problems irrespective of the age of the patient. Very often this problem is greater in children because of the teasing they experience at school. Adult women and girls can not have the hairstyle they desire if it is such that it exposes their prominent ears.

It can be done from the age of 5 years and up. Local or general anaesthesia are equally suitable. Local anaesthesia allows the patient to go home immediately after the operation. The incision is placed in the groove behind the ear and therefore there is no visible scar. The ear cartilage is reshaped either by using sutures or by scoring it. A head bandage is applied at the end of the procedure and is kept for 8-10 days. The pain following this procedure is mild but the patient can always use simple analgesics if necessary.
